Mold Damage Remediation Options That Residents of Rockledge Should Consider

How well is your family prepared to deal with mold damage? We all know that disasters do not plan, but we can make emergency plans today to protect us from possible health effects and reduce unnecessary damage when such incidents come knocking. The recent devastating wildfires and hurricanes reminded our country of the benefits of preparing to face disasters, and it is easy to understand why this September is a National Preparedness Month. We hope all residents of Rockledge can find useful information in this article to up their preparedness skills.

After addressing the safety concerns of the building, our SERVPRO technicians perform a site-assessment to come up with an effective and safe work plan during mold damage remediation in Rockledge. During this step, we determine the degree of the mold and moisture problem. We watch out of discolored surfaces, fuzzy growth on furnishing and items, and musty odor. Mold tends to grow in hidden areas, so, we check behind the wallpaper, insulation, wallboard, as well as carpet backing and padding.

Exposure to the mold spores can cause health effects, and it is essential to use the appropriate personal protective equipment. To protect our feet, we use work boots that are waterproof. Safety glasses with a full-face shield, waterproof gloves, disposable earplugs, and disposable coveralls are some of the PPE that we use. Where necessary, we decontaminated some of the contaminated PPE at the end of the remediation process.

We can also assess the contaminated items and determine what is salvageable and what is not. We discard porous contents such as papers, rugs, carpeting and padding, upholstery and textiles that have significant mold contamination. Removal and disposal of contaminated porous building components such as insulation, ceilings, plaster walls, floor sills, and non-structural wood studs may be necessary.

After cleaning surfaces and restorable items, we apply disinfectants to lower chances of mold problem reoccurring. We have also to dry the structure to address the existing mold growth conditions. We can set up space heaters and perform dehumidification to speed up the drying process.

At SERVPRO of Central Brevard, We're Faster To Any Size Disaster, and we can handle your restoration or cleaning needs. Contact our team at (321) 638-4947 to benefit from our trusted restoration services.

SERVPRO Can Beautify Your Salon in Cocoa Beach Following an Unwanted Spritzing

Commercial SERVPRO Can Beautify Your Salon in Cocoa Beach Following an Unwanted Spritzing Coco Beach Retail Shops and Salons Get a Make-Over from SERVPRO After a Water Loss

Commercial Water Damage Experts In Cocoa Beach Talk About Beauty Salon Problems

Moisture can move into the interior of your Cocoa Beach beauty salon from several different causes. Most salons have several sources of water running throughout them that create various possible beginnings for commercial water damage. The hoses running from sinks can sometimes leak causing water to spray all over the salon. The sinks used for hair washing can also leak possibly causing a flood inside your salon. Any time excessive moisture finds its way into your place of business, it is possible that mitigation is needed.

Moisture can ruin the structural components of your building as well as your expensive contents and fixtures. Mold growth can occur after 48 hours if the commercial water damage in your Cocoa Beach salon does not get mitigated promptly. As soon as water spillage is problematic in your salon, it is wise to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO immediately. We start by securing the building and making sure that it is safe for you to continue serving your customers.

After the building is secure for all occupants, we devise a mitigation plan. During the initial project scope, our SERVPRO technicians figure out the best way to complete work procedures without negatively affecting your revenue stream. If it is difficult to work around your employees and customers, we can conduct work while the salon is closed. In most cases, we block off one affected section of your business at a time so that you can keep serving your customers.

The first clean up procedure we conduct is the extraction phase. During this stage, we use advanced removal equipment to pull moisture out of any carpet and upholstery. Next, we set up drying equipment to complete rapid structural drying.

To speed up the natural evaporation process, we set up both air movers and dehumidifiers. Air movers create air circulation so that wet air evaporating from surfaces gets pushed away so that more water can evaporate from damp materials. Dehumidifiers then pull moisture out of the air and dispense it in liquid form to a holding tank. The dehumidification systems then exhaust out hot, dry air to be used in the air circulation.

Any time you notice a flood in your beauty salon, call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 24/7.

Staying Prepared For Hurricanes And Flood Damage In Merritt Island

9/13/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Staying Prepared For Hurricanes And Flood Damage In Merritt Island SERVPRO of Central Brevard is ready throughout every hurricane season to mitigate and repair damages from large storms in the area.

Staying Prepared For Hurricanes And Flood Damage

Preparing for a natural disaster can often take significant time, investment, and planning to get right, but could make the difference between life and death if things take a turn for the worse. September is National Preparedness Month, and with the amount of flood damage Merritt Island has seen over the years, we at SERVPRO feel it is vital to help the community prepare for the worst and recover back to its best.

Your top priority when facing flood damage or another disaster in Merritt Island should be to ensure the safety in your household. In many ways, this can be one of the easiest parts of your preparation efforts. Make sure you have multiple evacuation routes and plans ready so that you can adapt to unexpected conditions and events. Also, be sure to maintain a small cache of essential items such as first aid supplies, glow sticks, high-power flashlights, clean drinking water, and anything else you can think of that your household would need if worst came to worst. Keep these items stored together in a portable, water-resistant container (a plastic storage bin should do just fine) so that you can grab them and go with only a moment's notice.

In addition to protecting your personal safety, you should also be financially prepared for a disaster. Few hurricanes and floods come without cost, but if you are careful, you could face tens of thousands of dollars in repair costs even if you have homeowners' insurance. Many insurance policies exclude flood insurance, which is typically offered in separate packages. While this cost may be difficult to accept beforehand, it is well worth the investment to avoid a lump sum charge of many thousands of dollars after getting unlucky during one hurricane season. Call your insurance provider if you're unsure of whether or not you have flood insurance, and take steps to protect your property against future threats.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard is ready throughout every hurricane season to mitigate and repair damages from large storms in the area. If you have any questions about how to protect your home, call us at (321) 638-4947.

How You can Control Mold Damage in Your Rockledge Residence

9/9/2018 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation How You can Control Mold Damage in Your Rockledge Residence If mold affects corners and other areas of your home, contact SERVPRO for remediation services.

SERVPRO Technicians Offer Tips to Homeowners Battling the Spread of Mold in Their Home

Part of maintaining a home in Rockledge involves preventing damaging events from occurring wherever possible. Controlling the growth of mold and mildew can protect your home from their destructive nature while also protecting your family from potential health effects caused by mold and its spores. We have a few measures that you can use to increase your control over microbial populations by decreasing their ability to thrive inside your residence.

Homeowners can use these tips to help protect their property from mold damage in Rockledge and its devastating effects to both structures and contents. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention outlines four primary methods of controlling the growth of mold and mildew in homes. These include managing the humidity levels inside the house, making timely and prompt repairs of leaks (windows, pipes, and roofs), ensuring proper ventilation of areas known to produce steam and water vapor (bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry areas, and proper mitigation of flooding.

SERVPRO professionals can help homeowners determine the need for dehumidification through testing of moisture levels in the home. If these levels seem higher than usual, we can inspect for the cause. We can repair some sources, but others require the use of a dehumidifier. We can install one that requires little maintenance from the homeowner.

Water dripping your sink or tub can raise your water bill, plus sound terrible. Water dripping on the carpet often remains silent, and sometimes undetected. We have the technology to locate leaks like this, as well as those in your roof or around windows and doors.

Installing an exhaust fan over the stove and the bathroom is quite common, but your laundry area also needs ventilation. The ductwork leading off your dryer to the outside should have complete seals at both ends to prevent the escape of moist air. This also applies to the ducts coming off bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans.

Many homes that experience flooding also find themselves a victim of mold damage. The number of microbes carried in during a flood means proper mitigation becomes a crucial step in controlling the situation, so mold damage never occurs. SERVPRO technicians can also help with this task, should the event ever happen.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard wants to help residents in Cocoa Beach and Pineda protect their homes from mold damage. Prevention is almost always less expensive and time-consuming than remediation, and we are here to help with both. Contact us for assistance in protecting or remediating your home by calling our 24-hour service line, (321) 638-4947, any day of the year.

Storm Damage Stormy Weather Coincides with Flood Damage on Merritt Island Stormwater and Contaminated Sewage Need SERVPRO for Safe Removal and Cleanup in Merritt Island--Call SERVPRO

Contaminated Stormwater Requires Professional Removal and Cleanup--Call SERVPRO

Storms that affect Merritt Island can cause area homes to sustain severe damages. Flooding in our area does not need to come from rising water levels in local bodies of water. Instead, this disaster can happen when storms hit our area after coming in from the Atlantic and before hitting the mainland.

Because Merritt Island homeowners can also find themselves dealing with flood damage when downed utility poles or trees land on their roof during a rainstorm, SERVPRO offers 24-hour emergency services to area residents. Our crews are made up of dedicated individuals who earn certifications from the IICRC, ensuring our customers receive effective mitigation services, regardless of the amount of damage their property experiences.

Because flood damage is capable of causing both property damage and potential illnesses in people, we are highly engaged in our work and the processes it involves. Even water from overhead could contain surprising amounts of undesirable elements if unknown rodent infestations or other vermin existed in enclosed spaces in the roof. Safety gear includes rubber gloves and boots, face masks and respirators, and full body suits that keep pathogens away from our skin. Eradicating the pathogens and other harmful aspects of flooding inside your house requires skill and expertise, in addition to caution, but doing so helps ensure your family does not come into contact with any of these problems after we complete the job.

Part of our work in accomplishing this goal involves getting your home dried out, which protects it from water damage, microbial infestations, and continual malodorous scents. We start extracting the water as soon as possible, first with large pump trucks and then with smaller units that remove water from alongside mopboards and within other harder-to-reach places.

Removing carpet from rooms and hallways eliminates a great deal of water as well as the parasites and pathogens left there. Airing out your home while using a desiccant machine ensures that any moisture gets trapped in the machine, condensed and contained or drained, and reduces the amount of new materials needed to restore your home. Deodorizing methods can include long-lasting gel packs placed in inaccessible areas and thermal fogging with odor-neutralizing agents.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard restores homes on the mainland, including Viera and Rockledge, ensuring that the families in our communities have a safe and dry home that protects their health instead of threatens it with possible contamination from flood damage. After stormy weather leaves your home drenched and unlivable, call us at (321) 638-4947 so we can make things “Like it never even happened.” again.

Mold Damage Can Affect Personal Belongings and Furnishings in Your Merritt Island Home

Mold Remediation Mold Damage Can Affect Personal Belongings and Furnishings in Your Merritt Island Home SERVPRO Restores and Cleans Mold Damaged Possessions in Merritt Island Homes Whenever Possible, Sometimes a Little Demolition Is Required

SERVPRO Utilizes Many Techniques Including Pack-Outs for Mold Remediation

When your home on Merritt Island suffers a disaster, your family's personal belongings and the furnishings that make your house a home can suffer, also. SERVPRO technicians know how to restore homes as well as how to carry out the necessary steps to restore many types of items.

While your Merritt Island home's interior might require extensive replacement materials to remediate mold damage fully, SERVPRO's employees are trained to restore all possible items as opposed to replacing them. As a company, we choose to operate this way, so our customers' costs remain as low as possible. Disasters take a severe enough toll on the families affected without any additional financial burdens.

Restoring through cleaning creates other benefits, as well. Replacements often require precise but difficult matching of materials or the continuously glaring mismatch of replacement materials. While this rarely occurs, replacing more materials would increase the number of times when slightly mismatched items might happen. Cleaning items also can happen at a much faster rate than matching materials and installing them. Removing materials and disposing of them takes time, also, which can keep us occupied at the job site longer than if we merely cleaned the items in question.

Some belongings, such as carpeting and clothing, require special treatment to restore them fully. We have special tools and methods that make this possible to achieve. Some of our work continues at your house while we can more easily handle other types of your belongings at our facility. When we box up your things to transport them, we ensure that the use of inventory sheets for each box and barcodes when needed are implemented. .

Because mold particles can spread so easily inside your home, we also take precautionary steps that clean the air and ensure that water vapor levels are within normal ranges. We use meter readers that detect moisture in both air and materials. Air scrubbers remove dust and microbes from your residence, while dehumidifiers and desiccant machines dry out excess moisture. An antimicrobial spray can often be part of the service.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard knows how to perform cost-effective and efficient mold damage remediation services. We serve the areas around Viera and Sharpes, helping families live in healthy homes again. Contact us by calling our 24-hour services line at (321) 638-4947 any day of the year.

Understanding The Estimation For Mold Remediation In Your Merritt Island Hotel

7/19/2018 (Permalink)

Commercial Understanding The Estimation For Mold Remediation In Your Merritt Island Hotel With the help of our SERVPRO equipment, we can clean and restore any mold damage that poses a threat to your hotel.

Your Your Merritt Island Hotel Will Be Taken Care of By SERVPRO if Mold is Discovered

When you discover mold growing in an area of your Merritt Island hotel, your first instinct should be to seek out professional remediation services. With the potential health effects that come with exposure to active colonies, guests in your hotel could be at risk for these effects without even realizing it. Therefore, it should be a priority to handle this situation as efficiently and as promptly as possible.

Not only do you have the mold damages to worry about in your Merritt Island hotel, but as a business owner, you have the incurred costs of remediation to concern yourself with as well. Understanding a little more about the way that our SERVPRO team determines the cost of a restoration and remediation project can help you better appreciate the estimate you receive for the work that needs to happen.

The first thing that you need to understand about the way that costs get determined for the work is that it all gets based on an initial inspection performed by a SERVPRO estimator. It is their job to determine all of the steps that are necessary to restore the damage and get everything back to the way it should be.

This inspection details the full scope of the damage that has occurred, and what must happen to remove the colony and fungal growth entirely. This assessment further details the necessary equipment and personnel required to accomplish the task.

Much of the estimated costs are relative to the general "costs of doing business." We have money spent in picking up and delivering specific equipment to job sites. We have administrative costs related to project planning, photographs and progress reports. These incurred costs are all included in that same initial ballpark estimation you receive.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

Mold is something that poses a risk to your staff and the guests in your hotel. While no business owner wants to have to reduce their available rooms or services, the right professional remediation can assure that this does not have to happen for very long. Give our SERVPRO of Central Brevard technicians a call today at (321) 638-4947.

Mitigation vs Restoration in Your Merritt Island Hotel

7/14/2018 (Permalink)

Commercial Mitigation vs Restoration in Your Merritt Island Hotel When your cozy hotel suffers from a fire damage emergency, contacting SERVPRO is your best bet for both mitigation and restoration.

SERVPRO Technicians are Standing by Ready to Respond to Your Commercial Damage Call

Perhaps one of the leading causes of irreparable damages to Merritt Island businesses after a fire is the failure to contact a restoration company quickly enough. As is the case with all kinds of disasters, a faster response can ensure that professionals are actively mitigating the situation rather than reacting to damage that has already occurred.

While admittedly the commercial fire damages that a Merritt Island hotel experienced during a fire are going to significantly slow once extinguishment occurs, it does not entirely stop, either. Even firefighting efforts intended to put out the flames inside of the building can leave damages of their own, and to prevent these situations from continually worsening, you need to act quickly.

You might not get surprised to learn that our SERVPRO offices receive calls regularly asking for quotes over a phone amid or just after an emergency or disaster has occurred. Many business owners become so determined to find the lowest quote or estimate that they fail to see the damages they allow by waiting for the information they want to hear.

Fire damages are no different in their ability to continually worsen, making even smaller scale fires unmanageable for those renting a room at your facility. That is where mitigation comes in. This service is one that our SERVPRO team provides by showing up quickly and working to prevent the situation from getting any worse.

Restoration, on the other hand, is a service that we provide that takes the damaged areas of your business and brings them back to preloss conditions through reconstruction, cleaning, and other practices. While any commercial or residential property ultimately requires both to some degree, the faster you can choose the right restoration team for your disaster, the less time and money have to go into both sides of this process.

Choosing the right restoration company to help you amid a crisis can be an impossible task sometimes. The best course of action is to plan ahead when possible. You can always rely on our SERVPRO of Central Brevard fire restoration specialists to be standing by and ready to help mitigate the damage and restore the effects. Give us a call 24/7 at (321) 638-4947.

How Water Removal Services Can Help You Remediate Your Cocoa Beach Property

7/5/2018 (Permalink)

Water Damage How Water Removal Services Can Help You Remediate Your Cocoa Beach Property There are common challenges which arise when our SERVPRO technicians are performing water removal services.

Water Removal Services

When crawl spaces in your home are full of water, it can be so annoying, and there is a need to seek water removal services. The standing water may lead to mold growth, and soon or later the structural members may become weak and lead to unwanted losses. If you ever experience that in your Cocoa Beach home, you need professionals to control the water and dry the area.

There are common challenges which arise when our SERVPRO technicians are performing water removal services in Cocoa Beach. Most crawl spaces have low ceilings and accessing them may be difficult, which may force us to do some minor demolitions. If there is no access to electrical power in this area, we might be forced to provide an option since the sump pumps we use to drain the water use electricity when operating. We usually position the pumps at the lowest point of the structure.

If the humidity in the crawl space is already high, we may install dehumidifiers – which can be either desiccant dehumidifiers or refrigerant dehumidifiers - at the site to reduce the amount of moisture in the air. For instance, desiccant dehumidifiers have chemicals that absorb the moisture. Where necessary, we might install ventilation fans to enhance the drying process. To protect other uncontaminated areas of your home, our SERVPRO team can surround the area with a thick plastic layer during the restoration.

Water may make some organic substances to rot and give off odors. Since the odors are coming from some sources, it can be challenging to analyze the various sources and come up with specific methods to neutralize each smell. As a result, our SERVPRO technicians use multiple deodorization techniques to eliminate the odors. We use thermal foggers and Ultra Low Volume (ULV) foggers when dispensing the deodorants.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard can perform stress-free water, fire, storm, and mold damage remediation process in your property. Call us today at (321) 638-4947 to get reliable services from experienced technicians.

Fire Damage Can Leave Your Rockledge Home In Urgent Need Of Remediation

6/18/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Fire Damage Can Leave Your Rockledge Home In Urgent Need Of Remediation Fire damage is perhaps one of the most challenging forms of damage to remediate inside of your home.

Fire Damage In Your Home

Fire damage is perhaps one of the most challenging forms of damage to remediate inside of your Rockledge home. Many people misunderstand just how excessive and intense the damage that is left behind can be. After all, a fire is not just a blaze that goes up and then leaves ash behind. A fire can leave smoke-residue, soot, and ash in its wake. Smoke damage is a category all on its own and is directly caused by a fire. Firefighters who put out the fire are likely to cause water damage in the process. The cleanup and remediation process after a blaze is anything but easy.

When a fire breaks out inside of your Rockledge home, it is always wise to call SERVPRO as soon as possible. Fire Damage Experts In Cape Canaveral Talk About Different Cleaning Products and Methods

6/14/2018 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Fire Damage Experts In Cape Canaveral Talk About Different Cleaning Products and Methods Cape Canaveral House Fires Can Leave a Lot of Smoke and Soot Behind--Call SERVPRO for Rocket-Fast Cleanup and Restoration

SERVPRO Technicians Provide a Large Arsenal of Equipment and Cleaning Agents to Mitigate Fire Damage

Any fire that burns on your Cape Canaveral property can cause several different kinds of damage to buildings. Even fires that are small and do not burn building materials can cause smoke damage to exist throughout the house. Smoke first rises with the heat of the blaze; then it is attracted to cooler surfaces. When smoke hits cold surfaces it leaves behind soils and soot residues.

Since fires burn various types of materials, the chemical composition of the soot also varies. During fire damage mitigation in Cape Canaveral, the removal of soot residues is a significant part of the entire project. Residues can ruin the finished on contents inside your home as well as produce burnt aromas. Some types of soot are easily wiped off whereas others can be nearly impossible to remove.

To find the most efficient method, our SERVPRO technicians try until they find the one that works best for each scenario. In some cases, multiple methods are needed to remove different types of soot found in the same building. Other times various techniques must be used to clean the same type of soot off of different kinds of materials. Typically, vacuuming coated surfaces is initially a beneficial first step.

If the surface is non-porous, our SERVPRO restoration team can use wet chemicals to clean off soot damage. Using wet chemicals on porous substances can cause the soils to soak into the item and create more problems. Porous surfaces are best cleaned with dry cleaning methods such as compressed air or dry sponges.

When wet cleaning items, most surfaces that are paintable and washable can be cleaned with a general surface cleaner. These cleaners have a low enough alkalinity to where they will not ruin the interior paint. Heavy duty cleaners get used to remove heavy grease and thick soils. These chemicals usually have high alkalinity and contain ammonia. The high alkaline detergents cannot be used on some surfaces because they will eat away the finish and ruin the item.

Once the best cleaning method and chemicals for the job are discovered we clean everything inside your home that got affected by smoke with detail. Often items can get hand scrubbed individually until there is no soot present. If you ever need help with smoke-related problems, call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 24/7.

Eliminating Commercial Water Damage In Cocoa Beach

6/8/2018 (Permalink)

Commercial Eliminating Commercial Water Damage In Cocoa Beach For Pierless Professional Water Removal from Your Business in Cocoa Beach--Call SERVPRO

Rely on SERVPRO to Protect Your Cocoa Beach Business with Fast Water Removal

As Cocoa Beach business owners know, a commercial disaster can mean double the loss; sometimes, even more, of a home disaster. Even something as simple as a broken in-take pipe can result in not just physical damage, but the loss of income to the business. If doors remain closed, then invoices do not get paid, and paychecks do not get issued.

SERVPRO understands that commercial water damage to Cocoa Beach businesses is usually from clean water. That means there is no sewage or other contaminants in any standing water or water trapped in carpets, furniture, or walls. The goals of our technicians are to remove the water, dry the structural and other property, and reopen the doors to customers as quickly as possible.

In an office setting like an insurance agency, the first task is to get the water out. Our technicians start in most offices with extraction wands. These devices can remove standing water from floors and draw it out from soaked carpets. They draw out the water to prevent two specific problems: delamination and lifting of the carpet from the floor.

Delamination is when the top and bottom layers of the carpet separate from each other. It occurs when the glue absorbs too much water, and the top layer begins to pull away. The same process happens when the glue holding the bottom layer of the carpet to the floor softens, and bubbles of air and water begin to form. That forces the carpet away from the floor, which enlarges the bubbles further.

To stop both, SERVPRO technicians utilize the heating element in the extraction wands to carefully dry the carpet layers as they remove the water. Team members start with the lowest setting to prevent softening the glue further and avoid damaging the carpet surface. "Floating," the process of lifting the carpet from the tack strip and injecting warm air can at times help salvage the carpet and padding.

To speed up the process, they also set-up dehumidifiers to draw water from the air and surrounding property like furniture and building material like drywall and floor trim. As they lower the humidity, other specialists install exhaust fans at key positions to draw out the damp, interior air and force it outside.

Every business is different, but SERVPRO of Central Brevard has the experience and training to restore each one to a safe, dry condition. If you need us, call (321) 638-4947 today. We are here to help.

Flood Damage Experts In Rockledge Discuss Tropical Storm Related Problems

6/6/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Flood Damage Experts In Rockledge Discuss Tropical Storm Related Problems After removing flooring affected by flood damage, our technicans can set-up fans such as this to dry the area.

SERVPRO can address various types of flood damage

The entire state of Florida including Rockledge is prone to get hit by tropical storms and hurricanes. If a tropical storm comes into your neighborhood, it is possible that flooding occurs. When the area outside of your home gets filled with water, it is likely that moisture and debris come into your house.

Whenever moisture enters a structure, multiple problems can take place. Water that comes into a home as a result of flood damage in Rockledge can saturate contents and building materials ruining their structural integrity. Excessive moisture can also cause microbes to develop into a mold, which can cause health effects with some people.

Water that comes in from the exterior is often contaminated, and restoration must be done differently than if the moisture source is clean. First, our SERVPRO technicians test the water's contamination level and see if it is grey or black water. Most rainwater coming into a building is category two or grey water unless the water is muddy then it is considered black water or category three.

If water and debris from the tropical storm get into your home, our SERVPRO technicians disinfect the affected area to inhibit harmful bacterial growth. The debris brought in from the storm gets removed in sealed plastic bags so that microbes do not spread elsewhere. Since the water is not clean any non-porous materials that got saturated are discarded including the carpet and pad.

Extraction and drying can sometimes save some materials that did not get very wet. If there is some standing water inside the house, it gets removed using a sump pump and released into a sewage drain. Once all ruined materials get disposed of, structural drying takes place to dry out the remaining moisture in building materials.

Depending on the situation, the exposed subfloor and wall studs can get sprayed with disinfectants and anti-microbial chemicals. If bacteria or mold severely contaminate the structural components, they can be sprayed with a specialized sealant paint. Any time you need assistance with rainwater removal, call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 24 hours a day.

Commercial Commercial Water Removal For Cocoa Beach Eateries Air movers and dehumidifiers like these can help remove water from your business.

How SERVPRO can help you remove water from your business

Cocoa Beach, like many other cities and towns in Florida, relies on local and tourist patronage. Keeping the doors open for every viable hour is important to not only pay the business’ power bill but to provide paychecks for employees and keep the local economy moving.

None of this is possible when there is water in a Cocoa Beach restaurant’s foyer, dining area, bathrooms or kitchen. Commercial water removal needs accomplishing immediately to serve customers and hopefully prevent secondary damage. SERVPRO keeps a trained restoration team on-call to meet every need.

If our team receives pictures and video of the flooding, they can bring in the right equipment to get started in minutes after arriving on site. The first task is to remove any standing water. As one of our inspectors looks for the source of water and turns it off, others set up a commercial grade pump and begin the removal process. Technicians direct the water into the nearest sewer drain.

After removing the bulk of the water, team members bring in extraction wands. These smaller devices draw water off wood and concrete floors and pull it out of carpets. The wands have a built-in heating element, so SERVPRO technicians can carefully begin drying out carpets and wood floors at the same time.

Depending on the size of the restaurant, our team has two options. Members can use portable wands that have a battery pack or plug into the wall for smaller cafes, or, for large, buffet style restaurants, utilize wands that pump the water directly to a holding tank mounted on a truck outside the structure.

Once they finish with the wands, technicians install fans and air movers to draw out the damp air inside and replace it with warm air to speed up the drying process. As the fans and air movers work, team members use long-handled squeegees to push any remaining spots or pools of water out of corners, and out from under appliances and furniture.

Our goal at SERVPRO of Central Brevard is to support our fellow business owners and help them reopen to customers as soon as we can safely do so. If you need our services, call us today at (321) 638-4947 to schedule a visit.

Merritt Island's Fire Damage Experts Describe Cleaning Appliances

Fire Damage Merritt Island's Fire Damage Experts Describe Cleaning Appliances If a fire burns at your Merritt Island residence, structural components and building materials can suffer extensive damage.

Fire Damage Experts Describe Cleaning Appliances

If a fire burns at your Merritt Island residence, structural components and building materials can suffer extensive damage. Depending on the size of the blaze, parts of the structure might have to be removed and rebuilt. Aside from the heat and flames engulfing and charring parts of the house, smoke created by partially combusted particles can cause problems in areas far from the source.

Smoke put out by burning materials travels all over your home creating pungent aromas and leaving behind soot residues. During some fire damage restorations in Merritt Island, soils coat several indoor surfaces including contents. To prevent damage to items and to aid in deodorization all soot residue gets removed from affected contents and materials.

Different things inside the house require various methods and chemicals to clean soot damage. How difficult soots come off surfaces changes based on what burned in the fire and the type of surfaces affected. Non-porous surfaces are typically the simplest to clean because wet chemicals can be used to wipe off the soot.

When smoke spreads throughout your house, appliances often get coated with soils. Appliances usually contain surfaces made from metal, paint, plastic, and glass. These surfaces can be cleaned using a water-based detergent solution. If the soot is challenging to remove with the cleaning agent, then our SERVPRO technicians use another chemical to increase the alkalinity of the detergent.

Many appliances have highly polished finishes that can get damaged by cleaning agents. Chrome or aluminum can pit if industrial detergents are left on the surface. After using soaps to remove soot residues, applying a rinse chemical can prevent damage caused by the cleaning process.

In some cases, heat from a fire can cause finishes on appliances to turn yellow. When yellowing occurs, wood creme paste gets applied to the affected surface with a towel. We then allow the creme to set on the surface for two to three minutes. After it sets, we use steel wool to gently scrub the yellowish staining off. Once we agitate the surface with the paste, it gets polished with a clean towel.

Using the correct methods to remove soils can reduce the overall cost of the restoration project. For help from the professionals with any mitigation project, call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 seven days a week.

Cleaning Fire Damaged Window Areas In Your Cocoa Beach Home

Fire Damage Cleaning Fire Damaged Window Areas In Your Cocoa Beach Home Living in a home after a fire occurs in Cocoa Beach can leave everything smelling quite awful.

Cleaning Fire Damaged Window Areas

Living in a home after a fire occurs in Cocoa Beach can leave everything smelling quite awful. This odor comes from the layers of soot, ash, and other smoke by-products made by the fire. Even though it may feel oily when you accidentally touch it, it contains many corrosive components. Removing it from your home's surfaces helps remove the smell and protect your home's contents, and your family, too.

Cocoa Beach residents often notice that the fire damage in their home includes thicker deposits of soot near windows. Because the fire pushes the smoke outward, it often gets sucked outside through cracks near windows. As it leaves your home, more massive particles become attached to the walls, window glass, drapes, and anything else near the window. Part of this phenomena often involves a change in temperature near windows.

Our IICRC-certified technicians understand that these areas require specialized care to fully restore your home after even the smallest of fires. We use a pH-neutral glass cleaner that leaves windows streak-free and eliminates soot build-up quickly. Other cleaners remove soot from all types of window frames. Removing the soot from these areas often includes detail work that refreshes your windows making them look "Like it never even happened."

Draperies and their rods also need highly responsive care to protect them from the disintegrating effects of corrosive soot. We vacuum draperies to remove the drier portions and then carefully clean them, so they become clean and odor-free once again. Rods also require some care after a fire, to keep them functional. Wood can become dull instead of bright and shiny when soot remains too long. Window blinds can also become saturated with soot, and we tackle this occurrence with specialized equipment and procedures that remove the soot from them quickly. Moving parts receive silicone spray treatments to keep them working well, without sticking, so you can continue to use your windows as usual.

We at SERVPRO of Central Brevard know that your home's windows help shape your home's personality and look, both from the inside and to passers-by who drive past your residence. Even when the majority of fire damage remains hidden on the exterior, windows can often show more than you might like. Call us to begin the process of restoring your windows and their dressings, making your home light, airy, and beautiful once more. Our 24-hour line is (321) 638-4947, where we can be reached every day of the year.

Cocoa Beach's Flood Damage Professionals Explain Structural Drying

4/23/2018 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Cocoa Beach's Flood Damage Professionals Explain Structural Drying Thunderstorms can bring an enormous amount of water into your home. Should you face flooding, contact SERVPRO for immediate drying out services.

SERVPRO Technicians Have Drying Out Your Home After Flooding Down to a Science

Central Florida does not see as many hurricanes as other areas in Florida, but it is still possible that a storm hits near Cocoa. Thunderstorms bring about many conditions that are possibly dangerous to your house. Flooding and broken windows due to high-speed winds many times are the sources of water damage inside your home.

The interiors of most buildings are not made to withhold excessive moisture. SERVPRO's flood damage technicians near Cocoa know that moisture needs to be 100% removed from your home within 48 hours. If moisture still exists more than two days after the storm, mold likely develops.

Since the presence of a fungus can cause negative health effects with certain people, our SERVPRO restoration crew takes all measures necessary to return moisture levels to what they were before the storm attacked your property. After the source of the moisture gets fixed so that water is no longer flowing inside the structure, we start extracting everything in the home that got wet. We use specialized tools that are designed to extract water from different types of materials such as carpet or upholstery.

After our extraction equipment is unable to pull out more water, we begin the drying process. During drying, we test materials inside the affected area and materials that did not get affected. We then attempt to speed up the evaporation process so that the moisture levels in the wet contents are the same as the levels found in materials in unaffected regions.

To accomplish prompt structural drying we set up a combination of air moving and dehumidification equipment. We align the air movers in a circular pattern so that they push air in a counterclockwise direction so that the dry air hits wet walls at a 45-degree angle. The dehumidifiers then pull out moisture from the air and exhaust warm, dry air to get used by the air movers.

Every drying situation requires different variations of air mover and dehumidifier setups. If you ever need to dry out your house after a storm hits, call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 24/7.

For water emergencies that threaten your home, professional restoration services are a wise choice to make.

There are numerous causes for water damage in your Cocoa home, among the most typical of these though, would be a persistent leak in the indoor plumbing. While this might not seem like that credible of a threat at first, over time, this steady leak can cause a broad area of your home to get damaged. Our SERVPRO professionals work to ensure that any issue that you face in your home gets dealt with promptly. We understand that your time and money are valuable assets, and so we put our expertise and professionalism to work to give you a complete final product that restores your home back to the way that it was before you suffered the damage.

Our thermal imagery can detail the full reach of the water damage and present moisture so that the right tools and equipment get used to dry out the area successfully.

An assessment also gets done to determine if there are any indications of mold growth throughout the affected area. Even letting water damage continue for a short time provides the right conditions for mold spores to colonize, so this is a legitimate threat to your home that our SERVPRO professionals must ensure is not present.

While you might not think that a small leak in the plumbing of your home requires calling in professional restoration services, perhaps you can understand the gravity of the situation now. Fortunately, this is nothing that you have to correct all on your own. By employing professional restoration specialists, you can have your home back to preloss conditions much more quickly and begin the process of moving on from the traumatic event.

These lingering effects of fire damage to your Merritt Island or Kennedy Space Center area residence can hit you in several different ways. This fact makes it critical to keep an open line of communication with the SERVPRO technicians that arrive to begin the restoration process in your home following the fire. By talking about the effects and damage that bother you the most and challenge comfortable living for your family, our specialists can prioritize these areas to help you through the restoration process more efficiently.

Mold Damage in Your Cape Canaveral Home

Mold Remediation Mold Damage in Your Cape Canaveral Home Cape Canaveral Mold Remediation By SERVPRO Is a Good Launch Point

Moisture and a Food Source Spells Mold Growth--Call SERVPRO for Remediation

If you are noticing a musty, moldy smell under your kitchen sink in your Cape Canaveral home, but do not see any visible mold, do not dismiss it. You very likely have mold growth underneath or behind the cabinet, and possibly inside the drywall. A leaky faucet can help create mold growth, and it is crucial to handle the problem right away before it gets worse, by fixing the drip.

Even if you cannot see the mold but can smell it, mold damage and growth can be present in your Cape Canaveral kitchen. Mold thrives on dark and damp environments and continues to grow until the issue is handled. At SERVPRO, our staff is knowledgeable and professionally trained to clean the mold up and remediate the problem.

Microscopic organisms, molds can be present virtually anywhere. Along with yeasts and mushrooms, molds are fungi, and they are used to breakdown materials which are organic and recycle the nutrients. Molds release many tiny cells known as spores, and these spread quickly through the air to form new colonies, which is why during remediation, we are careful to contain the affected area to prevent the mold from spreading to unaffected regions of your home.

Mold needs moisture to grow, so that leak under your sink is perfect. Growth can occur when there is moisture from excessive humidity, water damage, condensation, water leaks, water infiltration, or flooding. Since molds grow by digesting matter that is organic, they slowly destroy anything they are growing on, which is another reason to act fast if you suspect you have mold colonies in your home. New molds can also sometimes grow on older colonies of mold.

SERVPRO techs can find mold growing on surfaces by the visible discoloration and staining that is frequently gray, green, black, or brown, but can also be white and other colors. The musty smell you noticed also makes mold evident in the suspected area of growth.

SERVPRO of Central Brevard are experts at finding hidden mold colonies in your home in Rockledge, Viera, or Pineda and cleaning them up. Get in touch with us at (321) 638-4947 as soon as you suspect you have an issue with mold.

Storm Damage Flood Damage Experts Nearby to Cape Canaveral Storm Damage Emergency in Cape Canaveral? SERVPRO Is Fast as a Rocket

Stormwater Extraction is a Cornerstone of SERVPRO Water Cleanup and Restoration Services

Being close to the ocean makes Cape Canaveral susceptible to flooding. High-speed winds and excessive rain often causes damage to your home or condo. If water levels outside get deep, then the rainwater possibly leaks into your house from bottom door seals.

High-speed winds sometimes blow branches or other objects into windows or the exterior walls causing a hole for water that allows moisture from the rain to enter your building. SERVPRO's flood damage technicians in Cape Canaveral have experience with mitigating water losses of all kinds. Rainwater sometimes presents challenges due to water contamination.

Often water coming from the outside has high contamination levels. Contaminated water can cause foul odors to exist inside a structure. In any water damage situation that does not involve clean water, our SERVPRO experts may test the water to figure out how contaminated it is. If the levels are high, soaked porous materials inside the home may need replacing.

If the contamination levels are low, then it is sometimes possible to mitigate the problem with extraction and drying. Many times we save your insurance company money (and you) by preventing costly replacement of building materials or contents. During the extraction process, we use specialized equipment to pull moisture out of your house.

After water gets extracted out of any carpet, upholstery, or hardwood floor, we begin the drying step. During a dry-out project, our goal is to create the ideal environment to speed up the evaporation process. We start by taking moisture levels, temperature, and humidity readings using specialized instruments.

We then set up air movers and dehumidifiers that accelerate evaporation by circulating the area with warm, dry air. Sometimes other more specialized drying equipment or techniques get used for drying out specific building materials. For example, sometimes we use injection drying equipment that pumps air into wall cavities drying out the wall's studs. This unique equipment, the Injectimatic, is on our trucks ready for use when needed.

Sometimes water coming inside a structure from the outside causes damage to the building's HVAC system. Usually, the HVAC ventilation system is located in the attic or crawlspace and is difficult to access. If the vents are stainless steel, it is possible to dry and clean them. If the vents contain fiberglass insulation, the insulation gets pulled out and replaced.

If the ventilation system does not get cleaned, it is possible that a mildew or mold smell develops inside the house. For professional help with water leaking into your home after a rainstorm, call SERVPRO of Central Brevard at (321) 638-4947 for help 24/7.

Finding Mold Damage In Your Merritt Island Home

Mold Remediation Finding Mold Damage In Your Merritt Island Home The discovery of fungal or mold growth in your Merritt Island home can be a hard thing to combat.

Mold Damage

The discovery of fungal or mold growth in your Merritt Island home can be a hard thing to combat. Even without the knowledge that mold could potentially cause health effects to those exposed, the colonies themselves can become widespread and unsightly. Most seek out a way to rid themselves of the growing organism as soon as possible, and this need requires the use of professional remediation services.

Part of the reason why more people do not rush to fight off the mold damage in their Merritt Island home is that they do not fully understand the process itself. With so many websites suggesting that mold removal is simple to achieve with conventional cleaning methods, homeowners naturally assume that their efforts have eradicated the colonies that were growing and simultaneously prevented the problem from recurring.

SERVPRO professionals get uniquely trained to handle all varieties of mold and fungal growth, along with the most efficient current remediation techniques and practices to expedite the process in your home. This process begins with our initial assessment of the area to be sectioned off, and we get to work immediately in setting up a perimeter around the affected area using negative air chambers and negative air chambers and air scrubbers with HEPA filters to neutralize active spores and prevent their spread from the current work area.

While the remediation process is involved and requires much equipment to achieve successfully, these steps do not become complete until the source of the food supply for the mold spores has gotten eliminated as well. A thorough inspection of the entire affected area should lend some clues as to where the moisture and dampness are coming from, and give our experienced SERVPRO technicians the ability to repair this damage and prevent future recurrences.

While there is inevitably someone in your life or something you have read on the internet to suggest that mold remediation is a simple project, sometimes it is best left to the professionals. Our SERVPRO of Central Brevard emergency response team can be reached anytime by calling (321) 638-4947.

While there are some steps you can carry out to mitigate the damage, remember you do not have all the necessary skills and tools to do the job. Whenever technicians arrive at your Cocoa home, they pre-inspect the area before the actual restoration work starts.

Most water damage encounters in Cocoa lead to dangers like weakened subfloors, falling ceilings, and electrical threats. That is why a pre-inspection is necessary so that such hazards are identified early enough for a safe restoration process. If the water is still running, our SERVPRO technicians also identify its source and stop it. Though restoration may sometimes sound simple, there is more to this process. For instance, our SERVPRO team can do necessary demolitions for safe remediation.

Our SERVPRO team may perform vacuuming, use pumps or water extractors to remove the water from your property. The type of equipment we settle on depends on the level of damage. It is vital to drain out the water as soon as possible to avoid bacteria and mold growth. After that, drying and dehumidification start - the two processes aim at removing any remaining moisture from your property. We normally use desiccant and refrigerant dehumidifiers during this stage.

Our SERVPRO technicians also clean and sanitize your items to lower the chances of mildew growth. Some of the materials we target during antimicrobial treatments include drapery, clothing, and carpets. To dispense the sanitizing agents, we use thermal and ULV foggers. If we notice that the air still has some moisture and particles, we may use air scrubbers to do the removal.

Depending on the severity of the water damage, extraction efforts are sometimes necessary. While this does not always require a pump truck from our vehicle fleet, it does often involve a combination of portable pumps and wet vacuums. Once the pooled water heavily saturated areas have gotten extracted, our SERVPRO professionals can set their sights on drying the affected area thoroughly.

This process also typically requires a combination of our equipment, utilizing both air movers and dehumidification equipment. While air movers focus on the lasting moisture present in surfaces and structural components of your home, dehumidification more often focuses on the moisture present in the air. The last thing that you want is to have water damage turning into mold growth from lingering moisture contacting naturally-occurring mold spores in the environment.

Water damage can be stressful, but if you know whom to call, it can help to make the process easier to endure. If you want the team that works to restore your home quickly, and has the expertise and drive, you want SERVPRO of Central Brevard. You can reach our emergency response team professionals 24/7 by calling (321) 638-4947.

Irma 4 months later

1/18/2018 (Permalink)

So here we are towards the end of January 2018 and the effects of hurricane Irma are still being felt.

In most ways life has gotten back to normal however we still see the signs.

Many place still have tarps on their roofs, peoples belongings piled up on the curb for trash pick up.  Some hotels are still full up with those who still can't live in their homes, and those who lost electricity for an extended period of time are fighting the after effects of water and high humidity.  Our office is still working on and receiving mold calls every day.

One of SERVPRO's storm teams is still settled on Cape Canaveral, their job almost finished.  I'm sure they will be glad to get to finally go home.

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but as with life, this is marathon not a sprint!

What is Mold?

1/18/2018 (Permalink)

Mold and organic growth represent a wide variety of the sort. Fungi, mold and organic growth are in our environment naturally. There are over 100,000 kinds of fungi on earth which range from extremely helpful to damaging. Some useful fungi produce yeast, used in preparing breads, baked goods and other food products including alcoholic beverages. Fungi can even be lifesaving; penicillin is a product of mold (Penicillin chrysogenum).

Intrusion of water into a home or building can create mold/ organic growth. Water intrusions can come from many different sources including storm damage, plumbing or equipment failures, long-standing leaks, and poor humidity control. If the intrusions are not handled right away, increased risk of harmful mold growth can present itself. Organic materials found inside a building, such as wood, paper, drywall, and insulation, provide food sources for mold to flourish.

That reason, alone, is a huge reason mold, fungi, or organic growth needs to be remediated immediately before disastrous damage occurs.

Valued Resource

1/18/2018 (Permalink)

One of the most important things we do here at SERVPRO of Central Brevard is got to know the local property managers, real estate agents, condo board members and maintenance staff.  The reason we want to do this is because not only are we a vendor we are more importantly a valued resource for them.

Often times through out the year people have questions they need answered so they can make educated decisions that will affect condos they live in or properties they manage.  We have set ourselves apart by being there at board meetings, condo association meetings, being on panels and doing what ever we can to ensure our local partners are getting not only top quality service but the answers they need. SERVPRO of Central Brevard  --we are here to help!!

Effects of Irma over a month later

Storm Damage Effects of Irma over a month later This is a photo of the drive way and car port

Hurricane Irma swept through Florida on September 11th 2017.  Now here we are on October 31st and the effects of this large storm are still being felt.

Our office of SERVPRO of Central Brevard was called to do an evaluation of a home that had been flooded twice since the hurricane. We have been in many, many homes since then and what I did not expect, because of  how long it has been since Irma shocked me. Here I was in the middle of Rockledge,

with no rivers or lakes within several miles and as I drove up to the home the road was still flooded almost up to 2 and half feet.  As a matter of fact the water(please see the photo) was still all the way up to the car port of this home.  Needless to say this job will require a storm cut of 2 feet in most of the homes drywall(in some cases higher)- not to mention demo of cabinets and bathrooms--

About the Worst we ever saw

10/30/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation About the Worst we ever saw Cocoa Beach condo unit with tons of mold

Please see the picture--

SERVPRO of Central Brevard was called to inspect 5 units at a Cocoa Beach Condo. They had roof damage and before any work could be done there was a lot of rain which kept the units very wet.

Upon entering the top unit, the odor was about as much as one could take and we had to use our PPE in order to inspect the unit. My production manager said it is about the worst he has ever seen when it comes to mold coverage. It was every where. Basically in order to complete this job we will have to gut the unit done to the studs. Wall, Ceiling and floors.  Even more special upon further inspection we noticed that the floor tiles were 9 x 9 inch square and are quite possibly asbestos- which will require special safety methods to clean up.

Irma the Terrible!!

Storm Damage Irma the Terrible!! Merritt Island road full of water and debris

Since hurricane Irma swept through the state of Florida on Sept 11th 2017- SERVPRO of Central Brevard has been responding to call after call for help. The call volume has been off the charts.  Several challenges had to be overcome such as roadways that we not usable due to either flooding or  large amounts of debris scattered about.  Downed power lines caused several cities in our area to be without power for almost a week.

But we banded together with those in our communities and with the help of SERVPRO storm teams that arrived from other states-The people were getting their homes and businesses dry and their lives back in order. Although there was tremendous amounts of damage we were blessed with not having anything extremely catastrophic in our area, It is going to take some time but with plenty of determination and hard work our community start to look "Like it never even happened."

Not the kind of wet bar we want

8/15/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Central Brevard received a weekend call from  a local Brevard county Knights of Columbus for a large leak. And it was large almost 90 % of the building had water in it.  Thankfully there were large areas that did not have contents to move and there was lots of hard flooring and not much carpet-

The problem started from a water line leak behind the bar.  They had shut the water off from the building before our arrival and called in a plumber to repair the damaged water line.

Please see the photo below showing one of our IICRC trained techs extracting water from one of the main areas in this building.  It did take several hours but after about 3 days we had the entire building dried out!!!

Don't leave your water damage to chance and create a mold problem

8/15/2017 (Permalink)

Here at SERVPRO of Central Brevard we have seen many times what happens when someone leave their water damage to chance. They have some type of leak they use a wet dry vac to suck up water and towel it off.  And no more water problem right??

generally wrong!!! Water like to go places that we do not see, like in your walls and under your cabinets and tile.  If this water is not dried properly the result is usually a mold problem.

Please look at the photo below- This came from a home how had several water intrusions over a couple of years- This pic is from the laundry room and after the  machines and wall cabinets were removed the mold damage is clear.  There are numerous areas in this home just like this- and until a small amount of mold became visible no one ever noticed. However the owners did say that their allergies have been worse over the last several months.....

Helping Condos with emergency planning

8/4/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Central Brevard has always been active in our community.  With Hurricane Matthew still fresh on everyone's mind we have stepped up to be a valued resource to our condominium association.

At the beginning of the summer the Space Coast Condominium Association (SCCA) held storm and emergency preparedness  meetings, one of which we sponsored, during these meeting we showed how SERVPRO's Emergency Ready Profile (ERP) complements and enhances the plans they are making.  The individual condo presidents really love the portability of the information.  That way in the case of evacuation they don't have to worry about any paperwork its all right there on the phone. We are working with several condos right now getting prepared-

This is one of the things I enjoy- building lasting trust with our friends and neighbors by lending a hand and providing a service (which is free by the way)that will not only give piece of mind but allow us to take care of them if the time comes when they really need help!!

ERP's Lead the way to great relatioships

8/4/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO's Emergency Ready Profile (ERP) has been a useful tool in the creation of great relationships.

We have been using them in the local hotels and during the summer months they are almost always up to capacity,   With that many people you can almost guarantee that some sort of damage is going to occur.

With the use of the ERP not only have we gained the confidence of the hotel managers but we have great relationship with the maintenance staff which make taking care of their emergency so much easier.  We don't have to ask for instructions for ever little detail we already know them.  Anytime you can get something like a water damage done quickly and a business back up running all the better- especially  at a hotel who will tell you that the "most expensive room is an empty room"

Major whole house water damage in Cocoa Florida

7/14/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage Major whole house water damage in Cocoa Florida the living room under where one part of the ceiling caved in- you can see all the white marks on the tile- that is the remains of the ceiling

Over the weekend- there were major thunder storms in the central Florida area including here in Cocoa.  SERVPRO of Central Breavard responded to a home who had major water intrustion which came from the incomplete roof which was being replaced-

Only after the rain had stopped and the roofers had tarped were we able to being getting the home dried out.  All but one room was affected and plus the electricity had been turned off, so we had to bring in a generator in order for us to run the drying equipment.

We had to box many contents and move some to the dry room while other items were stored in pod.

Unfortunately due to the amount of damage the family will have to be relocated until the water mitigation process can be completed and rebuilding finished.

Cocoa Beach Condo Fire

5/17/2017 (Permalink)

A Few days ago, we responded to a fire Damage in Cocoa Beach.  The fire started in the downstairs laundry closet, it appears that it is an electrical fire as the problem came from shorting wires in the dryer while it was not running.

Smoke engulfed the entire two story condo.  It was kind of unusual as the soot only seemed to find a resting place on all the flat surfaces.  The walls seemed pretty clear of it.  In fact when we did some test cleaning we got almost nothing from the walls.

Now the flat surfaces were another story all together.

Prime example was the girls desk upstairs.

The desk appeared to be a very dark grey, with 3 painted areas where books or paper would be placed.  but it turns out that that was where paper and books were.  They are perfectly white and really looked like they were painted there but in fact it was just that the soot was so thick it created the out lines. It was like this all over the condo- I move a book on the carpet and underneath it the carpet was about 5 shades lighter.  It is going to be a job to get this place clean.

Fire Damage in Rockledge, Florida

4/24/2017 (Permalink)

We responded  to a report of a house fire in Rockledge Florida.

When we arrived on site the fire department was finishing up and speaking to the homeowner.

From the outside of the it did not look very bad, however, once we were able to look inside the damage was clear.

The fire started from a back bedroom  and when the door was opened the smoke was pushed through the house and because the chimney flue was open, up the chimney causing the smoke and soot the be drawn all over the home

Now most of the major damage was contained to the back bedroom where the fire started because the bedroom door had been shut.

The inspector said that the cause of the fire was a short in a hair dryer that was left plugged in.

So please unplug your hair dryers!!!!!!!!!!!

Fire Damage in Melbourne Florida

4/10/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Of Central Brevard responded to a fire damage located in Melbourne, Florida. at the request of State Farm.

First things first- there were no injuries with this fire!!!!!!!

Upon arriving at the site our techs had to tarp the roof as lightning had struck the home and started the fire- leaving a large hole in the roof-

We then had to get the excess water out of the home which was a mixture of rain water and fire suppression  water.-

This looks to be a pretty large job as almost all contents will have to be removed-

The ceiling and walls and part of the house will have to be pulled out down to the bare studs- as well as the insulation in the ceiling.

With hard work and some time we will get this family back into their home-

water damage comes from fire in Melbourne Florida

4/10/2017 (Permalink)

Water Damage water damage comes from fire in Melbourne Florida This photo show the dripping water on the kitchen cabinets, that came from the fire fighting efforts.

Some people may not realize that sometimes major water damages come to occur because of a fire and although secondary may be as severe or even more extensive damage.

Take for instance a fire damage in Melbourne, Florida that we are working hard to make "Like it never even happened." The fire did damage to the roof and the insulation, and the soot was all over the house.

However it was the water from the fire suppression, that also caused damage.  Now it goes with out saying that the fire needs to be extinguished and water is the best way. Unfortunately what is left behind may be just as bad or worse as a pipe bursting.  So the same steps must be used to clean up the water.  Extraction, air moving, dehumidification, as well as opening up wall cavities to dry the water you don't see.

This is important so that secondary mold damage does not rear its ugly head in the future!!!

Bring in the Crew

3/9/2017 (Permalink)

Fire Damage Bring in the Crew This pic shows one part of the kitchen line that was effected by the fires, what a mess!!

We often speak to our clients, insurance agents and property managers about how we can handle any size job. We speak to them about if they have a large loss, we can pull in a team.

Last month we received a call from a local McDonalds.

They had fire behind one of their fryers and smoke was everywhere. We responded quickly and, took pictures and a sketch of the store. The scope of the job showed we were going to have to clean every square inch of the restaurant; remove all the ceiling tiles, etc. We knew we were going to need a lot of manpower to get them back up and running.

In less than 24 hours, we had a full 16 man crew working.

We started on a Thursday and finished by Sunday!

Needless to say, they are back serving chicken  mc nuggets to the public!!

Bunker Down

3/9/2017 (Permalink)

It seems that Central Florida residents are prone to "bunkering Down" these days when a hurricane comes to town.  It might have to do with hurricane fatigue from the early 2000's- I know many people who evacuated 5 or more times-and came back to very minimal damage.

This past October of 2016 powerful Hurricane Matthew caused major damage up and down the coast. However Brevard county residents were spared the kind of damage our neighbors in Volusia  county received.

But even with the very strong storm headed our way a very small percentage of coastal residents headed the evacuation order.

Taken from the 2010 census there are about 90,000 Brevard county coastal residents and only about 3500 of them checked into shelters.

Regardless of evacuation fatigue or not- I think more residents need to take the evacuation a little more to heart.  Matthew could have very well turned out very different if that little "wobble" didn't happen.

Hurricane Matthew debris cleanup costs for Brevard County

3/9/2017 (Permalink)

Brevard County will be paying  about 12 million to contractors who hauled away debris from Hurricane Matthew.

The two month long debris cleanup ended with 820,854 cubic years of material.

That is more than 2 1/2 times the amount of debris that was estimated to be produced by the storm.

About 90% of that was vegetation with the remainder being construction and demolition debris like fences and docks.

The county hopes to get most of the costs reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency-

For declared emergencies FEMA would pay about 75% of the costs while the state would add another 12.5 %- which would leave Brevard county on the hook for only $1.5 million on the $12 million total cost.

For now the yard waste is being stored in six sites in the county waiting to be turned into mulch.

Don't put off that water damage- Mold is not far behind

3/7/2017 (Permalink)

Mold Remediation Don't put off that water damage- Mold is not far behind When you wait too long- your water damage can turn into mold. Here is what happens: all effected areas must be removed.

From time to time we run into the emergency water damage call- only to find out that the event occurred several days ago. The problem with that is now not only is the client complaining about wet carpet; they also notice a foul odor in the air.

What is happening is most likely the start of mold growth.

Mold can colonize in 72 hours and bacteria can start to multiply in just a few hours.

At this point, we have to tell them it is not just a water emergency, most likely, it will end up being a mold remediation.

The Insurance Information Institute (“III”) estimates that the typical homeowner claim involving mold costs between $15,000 to $30,000 to handle, compared with the non-mold-related claim, such as water damage figure of $3,000 to $4,000, with payouts by insurers for mold-related claims topping over $3 billion.

Waiting on that water damage service call or even trying to do it yourself without proper knowledge can cost you 3 to 7 times what the water damage would have cost.

Mold Remediation

Mold can colonize in 72 hours and bacteria can start to multiply in just a few hours.

Physically removing mold contamination is the primary means of remediation.

In a standard situation, SERVPRO® removes all of the visible mold growth and excess spores and returns the area to normal levels

Mold remediation is a costlier process than taking care of a water

Damage as soon as it happens. Professional drying insures that the

Water you don’t see is taken care of.

This is where the thermal images come into place.

Determine the Category of Water

3/3/2017 (Permalink)

Determine the Category of Water-

It is important to know the class of water before we go out to a job- this helps us know what kinds of equipment to bring as well as be prepared for any safety issues that might come up.

Clean water  Category 1

Broken pipe, ice maker, drain overflow

Does not contain waste or contaminants-

Usually everything that was effected can be restored with this category of water-

Gray water  Category 2

  Washing machine, dishwasher, roof leak

Has some soils and contaminants-

Generally most effected areas can be restored with this class as well except for maybe porous materials.

Black water  Category 3

  Raw sewage, floods

High degree of waste and contaminants--

With this category of water with very few exceptions, anything effected must be discarded.

3 Ways a clogged gutter can cause water damage to your home!

2/23/2017 (Permalink)

1. Foundation damage

The main role of a gutter system is to channel water off the roof and away from the home's foundation. A blockage can cause water to pour over the sides of the gutter and pool around the foundation. Over time, the water can cause cracks to form and damage the foundation,  potentially resulting in collapse. But even if the foundation doesn't fail, the water can still cause mold growth.

2. Wood damage

The fascia boards that hold the gutter system are often made of wood. When gutters clog and fill with water, the boards start to deteriorate and rot. If a home has wood siding, clogged gutters can also cause water to overflow out of the gutter system and down the sides of the home.

3. Ice dams

In colder climates, ice dams can form on the gutters or the lower edge of the roof, causing water to pool and eventually seep into the home. While ice dams can form on homes with clean gutters, clogged gutters prevent water from draining, which increases the chance for ice dams.

Hurricane Matthew debris pickup update

10/27/2016 (Permalink)

Who is picking up my debris? Why is it taking so long?
We have estimated that Hurricane Matthew generated over 300,000 cubic yards of debris in 24 hours; that is equivalent to almost 3 months of yard trash normally collected in the County. This does not include the large number of fences, docks and other construction debris. It is going to take some time for this to be collected. Waste Management, Inc., your normal waste collector, will pick up all containerized waste as usual. They are a few days behind due to the volume of waste generated over the last couple of weeks. The County’s debris contractors are picking up the large piles set out in the public right-of-way. No collection can or will be made from private property.  Unfortunately a large number of communities from South Florida to North Carolina suffered the wrath of Matthew and all these communities are hiring debris collection trucks making the market very tight. We currently have over 40 extra trucks and crews on the roads.

The County landfills are open as usual for the public to drop off waste if you choose to do so. There is no charge at the landfill for yard trash from residents.

What is Black Mold

10/26/2016 (Permalink)

Stachybotrys chartarum is the type of mold often called “black mold” or “toxic mold”. Sensational news reports warn about the dangers of black mold and these stories can be alarming and confusing. Any mold in your home should be treated with caution – stay out of affected areas and don’t touch or disturb the mold.

Please refer to our Mold Damage Tips to learn more about mold and what to do until help arrives.

How Do I Tell If It’s Black Mold?

Since many types of mold can produce allergens and irritants, you should contact a qualified mold remediation company regardless of the color or type of mold. In many instances, multiple types of mold can exist in the same house or structure. If you suspect that you have a mold problem, contact a SERVPRO Franchise Professional immediately. Understanding Mold

When water intrudes into your property, mold growth can start in as little as 48 hours. Consider the following mold facts:

  •  Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  •  Mold spores are microscopic, float along in the air, and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  •  Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce toxins harmful to humans and pets.
  •  Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise the mold may return.
  •  Mold often produces a strong, musty odor, and that odor can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  •  Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

What Are the Most Common Types of Storm Damage?

8/26/2016 (Permalink)

What Are the Most Common Types of Storm Damage?

Storm damage can occur in a variety of ways including flooding, wind damage, and even fire. Flooding rains can extensive amounts of damage to your home, lightning strikes can cause fires, and high winds can cause a number of structural issues .

But which is the greatest risk to your home and homes around the country?

The risk for each of these depends on the areas in which you live. If you live in low-lying areas or coastal areas prone to tropical systems, flood damage is going to be the mostly likely cause for concern. Inland areas, particularly in Texas and across the mid-west are most susceptible to wind damage from tornadoes. Fire damage from lightning strikes can occur anywhere at any time.

The Most Common Type of Storm Damage

Annually, flooding is the most common and extensive form of storm damage that occurs in the United States. Even during high wind events like tropical storms or hurricanes, the majority of the damage comes from the flooding rains from the storms and not the destructive winds.

Every year, insurance companies pay out more than a billion dollars to repair flood damage in the U.S.–and that number is only rising as property values increase and the number of homes in high risk coastal areas rise.

The amount spent on flood damage could continue to rise significantly in the future–especially if sea levels rise as predicted. If sea level rise occurs, thousands of homes in the United States will be at risk and potentially hundreds of billions of dollars will have to be spent to mitigate that damage.

Damage from flooding rains can penetrate every part of your home of business structure, requiring the gutting and replacement of much of the structural components inside, including walls, floors, ceilings, and more.

Important mold facts!!

8/8/2016 (Permalink)

Toxic Mold Fact Sheet

The National Indoor Toxic Mold Awareness Month Planning Committee developed this Toxic Mold Fact Sheet to provide information about molds and mycotoxins. Currently, there are no Federal Government Standards for indoor air quality regarding molds and mycotoxins. This information is provided to inform the public on the preventable health and development problems that may be caused by exposure to toxic mold in their homes, schools, and communities.

Important Mold Facts:
People are routinely exposed to more than 200 species of fungi indoors and outdoors. There are sixty species that produce the 180 trichothecene mycotoxins. Mycotoxins kill other things, like bacteria and viruses, so mold can continue to grow. The American Cancer Society lists aflatoxin mycotoxins as known human carcinogens. The FDA has enforced regulatory limits on aflatoxin concentrations in foods and feeds since 1965.

Mold spores, whether dead or alive, can cause adverse health effects. Molds also produce a large number of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These chemicals are responsible for the musty odors produced by growing molds.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

  • There is no practical way to eliminate all molds and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture.
  • Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any substance, providing moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods.
  • Clean and dry any damp or wet building materials and furnishings within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.
  • Incidences:
It is estimated that 500,000 deaths occur yearly in the United States due to exposure to indoor toxic mold.

According to an EPA study, an estimated 50% of our nation’s schools have problems linked to poor indoor air quality.

    Health Causes:
Mycotoxin exposure can lead to toxic injury that may include multiple illnesses, affecting the skin and the nervous, vascular, respiratory, digestive, reproductive, urinary, and immune systems; including the formation of cancers and can be life-threatening.

    Studies:
In the mid-1990's, a study conducted from Cleveland, Ohio, involved infants who had died suddenly from unexplained pulmonary hemorrhage (bleeding of the lungs). Upon investigation, the researchers found that the infants resided in homes with high levels of Stachybotrys atra, linking Stachybotrys atra exposure to serious health effects and even death. A government study is now being conducted, with findings to be released in 2010.

A 1997 Mayo Clinic study found that 96% of recurring sinus infections are caused by fungus in the sinuses. When participants were treated with anti-fungal sinus sprays, recurrence of infection was considerably less, and in some cases, no recurring infections were noted.

Fifty percent of the 937 children tested in a large multicity asthma study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health showed sensitivity to mold, indicating the importance of mold as an asthma trigger among these children. Molds are thought to play a role in asthma in several ways. Molds produce many potentially allergenic compounds, and molds may play a role in asthma via release of irritants that increase potential for sensitization or release of toxins (mycotoxins) that affect immune response.

    “Mold Removal” vs. Remediation

Mold Remediation “Mold Removal” vs. Remediation Mold damage in Titusville Florida

    What’s the Difference?

Since microscopic mold spores exist naturally almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors, removing all mold from a home or business is impossible. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold. This is a fallacy.

A qualified restoration company understands the science behind mold and mold growth. SERVPRO Franchise Professionals have the training and expertise to remediate the mold in your home or business. Mold remediation focuses on getting mold levels back to normal, natural levels.

Every mold damage scenario is different and requires a unique solution, but the general mold remediation process stays the same. To learn more about our mold remediation process.

    • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
    • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor, and that odor can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
    • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

Water Damage The Water Damage Restoration Process Water damage in merritt island

Every water damage event is a little different, and requires a unique solution, but the general process stays the same. You can click on any of the steps below to learn more about that process.

    Step 1 - Emergency Contact

When you call, our representative will guide you through several questions that will help the SERVPRO Franchise Professional respond to your water emergency more quickly and efficiently. This initial contact is an important part of a fast, effective restoration.

Step 2 - Inspection and Water Damage Assessment

They carefully inspect your property’s water damage, determining the type of water damage and the areas affected. This is a crucial step to creating an effective plan of action that will result in a successful restoration.

Step 3 - Water Removal / Water Extraction

Typically, hundreds or thousands of gallons of water are removed using our powerful pumps and vacuums during the water removal process. The SERVPRO Franchise Professionals start this process as soon as possible to minimize further damage and to help prevent mold growth.

Step 4 - Drying and Dehumidification

After the bulk of the water has been removed, SERVPRO Franchise Professionals use specialized equipment to target the water that’s harder to access. They use less intrusive, scientific drying methods to draw the remaining water and moisture from your property with air movers and dehumidifiers.

Step 5 - Cleaning and Sanitizing

Water damage also affects your belongings, like furniture, clothing, and personal items. SERVPRO Franchise Professionals can clean restorable items using a number of specialized cleaning techniques. They also sanitize with antimicrobial treatments and remove odors using industrial air scrubbers and fogging equipment.

    Step 6 - Restoration

The last step is restoring your home or business back to its pre-water damage condition. The restoration step can be relatively minor, such as replacing a few drywall panels, or could include major reconstruction, such as rebuilding entire rooms of a home or business.

Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Mold Removal?

    3/23/2016 (Permalink)

Don’t wait until you have a household mold problem to ask does homeowners insurance cover mold removal. Find out in advance if your insurance will cover a problem if one arises. Mold removal can be extremely costly, so you don’t want to find out too late that you’re not covered.

Coverage really varies from policy to policy, so the only way to know for sure if your policy will cover mold removal is to read your policy carefully. Some insurance policies contain exclusions, specifically saying they will not cover mold removal. Some will cover mold removal only under certain circumstances. Some will pay for mold removal but not for mold testing, even though you may need to have your home tested for mold in order to find out if there is mold there that needs to be removed. Some will pay only a limited amount for mold removal, even if the actual mold removal process costs more. In some cases, you can pay extra to have insurance for mold remediation

Contact your insurance agent if you have any questions about your policy. If your policy doesn’t currently cover mold removal, find out if you can add that coverage to your policy. It could save you thousands of dollars down the road.

Why should I not take care of water damage myself?

    3/18/2016 (Permalink)

Water Damage Why should I not take care of water damage myself? Water damage left too long and it resulted in have to remove all the dry way down to the bare studs-- you can even see rust on the stud!!

Even a small amount of water can cause a lot of damage to a property and if corrective action isn’t taken right away, the homeowner may bear the cost of the clean-up.  This is because most homeowner insurance policies will state that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to try to limit further damage to their home after a water loss.  If they don’t do anything, the insurance company could deny the claim.

On top of this, the longer there is water in a home, the greater the possibility of the home experiencing secondary damage.  This is when materials that are wet sustain additional damage that then becomes more expensive to fix.  A good example is when wet drywall is not properly dried and then becomes moldy.  Another one is when you have a wet room that is not addressed and the high humidity levels cause damage to another room that wasn’t originally affected.

Secondary damage is always more expensive to mitigate than the original water damage but can be avoided is corrective action is taken right away!

At SERVPRO of Central Brevard, we have successfully mitigated water damages in hundreds of homes in our over 19 years of service to the Space Coast!!
